**Public Health Advisor 3 - Lodging Health and Safety Specialist**
**The Opportunity**
In this position, you will be supporting the Department of Health's (DOH) mission to protect and improve the health of residents of the state through professional and technical expertise by assisting in the inspection and investigation of DOH-regulated facilities. The position serves as an expert in transient accommodation facility (hotel/motel) inspections and complaint investigations, and may be a lead worker for other health inspectors.
This is a full-time permanent Public Health Advisor 3 (PHA 3) within Environmental Public Health - Office of Environmental Health and Safety. This recruitment may be used to fill other PHA 3 positions within the unit.
This position can work remotely from home or from our office locations in Tumwater and Shoreline.

**What will you be doing? - Duties include:**
* Conducting surveys and compliance investigations.
* Gathering information from multiple sources, determining relevant data and compiling the information into a final report.
* Providing technical assistance to a variety of stakeholders and customers regarding compliance and related issues
* Explaining the results of surveys in various settings, including testifying in legal proceedings.
* Serving as lead for transient accommodations rule revision activities.
**Required Qualifications:**
* A Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental public health, food science, environmental science or an allied field.
* Three (3) or more years of progressive experience in public health, including one (1) or more years of experience in a consultative, supervisory, administrative or advisory capacity.
* Demonstrated experience effectively using MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Knowledge the following:
* Principles, practices, organization and objectives of environmental health statutes and rules related to environmental health.
* Federal and state laws and state Board of Health rules related to housing programs
* Bacteriology, vector control, and educational principles and techniques.
**Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions**

* Work indoors, at a desk/workstation the majority of a work day, in an open office environment with possible conversation and other noise distractions.
* Work from home or an office setting north of Seattle.
* Work in a tobacco, drug, and alcohol free environment.
* Occasionally work in excess of 40 hours per week and/or to adjust normally scheduled hours, which may include evening and weekends, to meet program needs and critical deadlines.
* Travel within the state 60-80% of the throughout the state which often includes overnight stays, as required, while performing the duties of this position.
* Work in a fast-paced/stressful environment with multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
* Legally operate a state or privately owned vehicle OR provide alternative transportation.
* Move objects or materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
* Interact with the public and stakeholders daily, including dealing with demanding situations and challenging operator interactions.
